UC Davis Vet School research on eye cancer in Haflingers

UC Davis has a team of researchers who are willing to visit Haflingers outside of Davis as they work on their study to try to determine potential genetic origins for the squamous cell eye cancers (SCC) that have been reported in dozens of Haflinger horses. They are looking for non-affected horses 13 years or older, but will also consider horses who may have already been diagnosed with SCC.
We have some paperwork that explains everything and includes permission slips, etc. You can also choose to send in your horse's DNA sample ahead of time, which Dr. Bellone said would be good so when they come up north they would already have some data on the horses being examined.

The Annual Event is hosted by members residing within the region scheduled for the given year including all aspects of planning, advertising, sponsoring, hosting and running the event for that year. If a region is not able to take on this task, then the event will be available to other regions for that year. The WHA Board of Directors will consult and assist, but will not become the primary planners.
